Objective: To lower operating costs and maximize operator efficiency using remote automation technology.
Challenge: Account managers were driving site-to-site to manually measure chemical levels with a dip stick. The solution needed to be non-intrusive and without modifications to the tanks.
Solution: R3 mounted sensors on existing lines/ports to calculate the volume in the tanks. The self-powered units have a battery life of up to 3 years and are certified for C1D2 environments.
The tank data is now transmitted by cellular or satellite technology to a secure website, which can be accessed via laptop or mobile device by authorized users.
Pipeline Wear Detection
Objective: To optimize maintenance scheduling by using R3 technology to detect wear patterns in the pipe lining.
Challenge: To prevent pipe corrosion, the client was taking an educated guess and turning their pipe four times a year. They were looking for a portable and non-intrusive solution to help them be more efficient in pipeline wear detection.
Solution: R3 installed surface temperature sensors to detect the heat differential in the composite lining and corresponding steel.
These sensors enable users to determine where the wear patterns are and when specifically to turn the pipe, improving both predictive and preventative maintenance.
Double Wall Leak Detection
Objective: To lower operating costs and maximize environmental protection using remote automation technology.
Challenge: Operators were tasked with visually inspecting frac ponds to ensure there was no leak occurring.
Solution: R3 mounted optical sensors between the linings to detect any leakage. The self-powered units have a battery life of up to 3 years.
The data is now transmitted by cellular technology to a secure website, which can be accessed via laptop or mobile device by authorized users. Alarms are transmitted to operations via text or email messages.
Remote Pump Operations
Objective: To lower operating costs, and decrease safety risks to personnel and environmental risks to the surrounding area.
Challenge: To monitor the flow of produced water from the discharge of the pumping unit, and be able to control the flow based on process requirements with the ability to shutdown on an alarm condition.
Solution: R3 installed a control module into the existing pump controller. The controller was then connected to a cellular gateway and transmitted to the cloud.
Operations can now control all of their pumping units from the cloud. This centralized location improves process efficiency, as well as minimizes any HSE risks.
